Politics, Power & The Kingdom

Our new Sunday teaching series "Politics, Power & the Kingdom" starts this month.  Part one, running up to Advent, is a broad sweep considering the theology of power, politics and citizenship and what it means for us when our primary allegiance is to a higher Kingdom.  It is an attempt to look beyond party politics and consider how to live counter-culturally in line with the values of God’s Kingdom.  Part two, in the new year, will pick up on specific political issues of our time and how we should respond to them.

Part one themes:

20 Sep - Dual Citizenship – examining what it means to be citizens on earth, but also of God’s Kingdom as the primary focus of our allegiance and hope.

04 Oct - Engaging as Exiles – believers are called to actively engage and seek the good of their local communities, even when culture operates outside of Kingdom values. 

18 Oct - A Different Kind of Power – Kingdom politics are marked by self-emptying love and serving the marginalised, following the example of Jesus.

01 Nov - Witness Through Everyday Life – identity in Christ supersedes any political affiliation, allowing for grace and understanding rather than aggressive rhetoric. Loving one’s neighbours and political “enemies”.

15 Nov - Erecting Signs of the Kingdom – the ultimate victory belongs to God. Hope in Christ’s return rather than manifestos or political policy. Until Christ returns, the Church is responsible for living out the ethics of the Kingdom, offering a preview of heaven on earth.
